Terms of use

Last updated 26 October 2026

ProdID-Check is owned and operated by Hintsa Unlimited (Pty) Ltd, registration number 2021/988541/07 (“we”, “us”). These terms apply when you use the ProdID-Check website, apps and services (“ProdID-Check”). By using them you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use them.

1. What ProdID-Check does

ProdID-Check lets brands register products with unique ID codes, record their movement from factory to store to buyer, and lets the public check a code. It is a record-keeping and verification service.

2. Who can use what

3. Accounts and security

You are responsible for everything done with your account, including by staff and by integration keys you create. Keep passwords and keys private, use a strong password, and tell us at once if you think an account or key has been misused. Share keys only with systems you control.

4. Brands

A brand must only register products it makes or is authorised to register, and must keep the information it enters accurate. It must not register codes for counterfeit or unauthorised goods. We may suspend a brand that does.

5. Stores

A store must record sales accurately and only record a buyer’s details with that buyer’s agreement, after telling them their name is recorded against the product and shown to the public in full or masked form, as the buyer chooses. A store must not record false buyers.

6. Verification results

A result of “Authentic” means the code is in our records and was registered by the brand shown. It is information, not a guarantee about the physical item. Results are only as accurate as the records brands and stores keep. Always check that the item, the tag and the brand match, and take care if a code is unknown, reported, or registered to a different brand.

7. Stolen and lost reports

Brands, stores and owners may report an item as stolen or lost. A reported item is frozen and shows a warning when checked. Reports must be made honestly. Only the brand can clear a report, other than an owner clearing their own report. Do not make false reports.

8. Acceptable use

You must not misuse the service. For example, you must not attempt to guess codes or access other people’s data, overload or interfere with the service, bypass limits or security, use it to deceive buyers, or use it unlawfully.

9. Our intellectual property

The ProdID-Check name, logo, badge, website and software are protected by copyright and belong to Hintsa Unlimited (Pty) Ltd. Brands may display the ProdID-Check badge we provide, unaltered, to link to the verify page. You may not copy or reverse engineer the software or use our name or logo in any other way without our written permission.

10. Your data

How we handle personal information is explained in our Privacy policy. Brands and stores own the product and sales information they enter, and give us permission to store and display it as the service requires.

11. Availability and changes

We work to keep the service available but cannot promise it will never be interrupted. We may change, add or remove features, and may update these terms. We will show the date of the latest update at the top, and continued use after a change means you accept it.

12. Liability

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for loss caused by inaccurate information entered by brands, stores or users, by counterfeit goods, or by interruptions outside our control. Nothing in these terms limits any right you have under the Consumer Protection Act or other law that cannot be limited.

13. Suspension and ending

We may suspend or end access if these terms are broken or the service is misused. You may stop using the service at any time; brands and stores can ask us to close their accounts.

14. Fees and payment

Brands pay a once-off onboarding fee and a monthly fee for their plan, in South African rand. A brand that pays for twelve months up front pays no onboarding fee. Fees are shown on our website and on each invoice, and are due by the date on the invoice. Hintsa Unlimited is not registered for VAT. If an invoice stays unpaid for more than seven days after its due date, we may pause the registration of new items until it is paid. Items already registered continue to verify.

A brand may choose to pay by automatic monthly charge. It does this by ticking a box that states the amount and agreeing before it is taken to our payment provider, PayFast. The charge repeats every month until the brand cancels it on the Billing tab. Card details are entered on PayFast’s pages and held by PayFast; ProdID-Check does not see or store them. We keep a record of the brand’s agreement.

15. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa, and its courts have jurisdiction.
